There are seven basic phases of the Healthy Children Healthy Futures school program:

- Learn healthy skills to incorporate into their lifestyle and environment.
- Increase their awareness and knowledge of healthy eating and physical activity concepts and issues.
- Work in teams to produce healthy eating and physical activity media to include print ads, radio, animation and social media.
- Have their efforts and media products recognized in a meaningful way and rewarded.
- Use program resources to communicate with peers, families and communities about healthy eating and physical activity.
- Provide parents and family members new health information and practical skills.
